The M3, M4 and M4 Competition Cabrio models have their production interrupted due to non-conformities in the engine
If you are waiting to receive the BMW M3, M4 or M4 Competition Convertible that you ordered, get ready to wait a little longer. This is because, according to the German press, the production of these models was stopped by the Munich manufacturer.
In recent months, all the delays in vehicle production have been due to the lack of chips, or semiconductors, one of the smallest and cheapest elements of a modern automobile, but without which there are a number of systems that don't work. This time, the problem is another and one that BMW would gladly do without, as it prevents the German manufacturer from satisfying its customers who are looking for some of its most attractive sports cars.
After starting the production of these models, BMW came to discover that the powerful inline six cylinder had a problem. The crankshaft seal supplier, struggling with defective quality control, missed parts that did not conform to the quality demanded by BMW. The fact that the error was discovered in a routine inspection by the manufacturer itself proves that builders' trust in suppliers must be kept in a tight rein.
BMW casts the aluminum used in the blocks and heads, machines both until they are exactly the desired size and able to withstand the pressures and temperatures to deliver 510 hp. And then, when he assembled the noble power units, he discovered that the engine crankshaft seals that supply 650 Nm, perfectly stable between 2750 rpm and 5500 rpm, in addition to 510 hp, were defective.
The group of defective seals supplied to the German brand was detected in time, so that, according to the manufacturer, only 35 engines considered to be defective were used in series production vehicles. The information published by the German press does not specify how long it will be necessary to wait for the receipt of seals with the correct specifications, as well as their installation in customer models, but everything indicates that BMW is confident that everything will proceed quickly.
