PORSCHE 718 CAYMAN GT4 RS spikes 7:04.511 at Nurburgring

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is gaining an older brother: the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. The new top model of the 718 family is well prepared for its world premiere in November. During the final tests and evaluation courses, the first 718 with the RS emblem demonstrated its dynamic potential on winding and mountainous roads and on the race track.

Brand ambassador and development driver Jörg Bergmeister covered the 20,832 kilometers of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in a lightly camouflaged production car in 7:09,300 minutes. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS completed the shortest lap of 20.6 km, which previously served as a benchmark, in 7:04,511 minutes - 23.6 seconds faster than its younger brother, the 718 Cayman GT4. To protect the driver, the mid-engine sports car was equipped with a racing seat. The tires fitted to the car were the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R, which will be available as an option. An auditor confirmed the standard condition and weight of the car.

“During development, we've given the 718 Cayman GT4 RS everything that an authentic RS has: lighter construction, more downforce, more power and, of course, an even greater level of responsiveness and feedback to driver input. The fantastic lap time at Nordschleife is impressive proof of how these improvements in driving dynamics are clearly noticeable,” explains GT Model Line Director Andreas Preuninger. "Our customers can look forward to a purist car that makes it an absolute priority to provide a vibrant driving feel."

“The 718 Cayman GT4 RS is a relentless driving machine. It looks as agile as a kart on mountain roads, but it's impressively stable and well balanced on the race track. Otherwise, this lap time would not be possible,” says Jörg Bergmeister. “The GT4 RS is one of the most insightful cars Porsche has ever developed. And you really have to experience the breathtaking bang it offers you,” adds the world-class driver, who devoted more than 500 hours to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS during testing and tuning as part of the car's development.
