MOTO GP
Miguel Oliveira's turn
MotoGP follows the Red Bull Ring for its second race on Austrian soil, now the Styrian GP. The race, which received the distinction of being the 900th in the history of the World Cup, had Pol Espargaró putting the KTM on the edge. In the race, an insane end gave victory to another KTM, that of Portuguese Miguel Oliveira.
Over the past week, MotoGP discussions have focused on the accident between Franco Morbidelli and Johann Zarco at the Austrian Grand Prix, which almost involved Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi. All the riders gave their opinions on the case and, in the end, the Ducati Frenchman was punished with a start in the pitlane.
With 16 laps to go, Mir was already opening more than a second for Miller and Nakagami, who remained almost two seconds ahead of Espargaró and Rins.
With 12 laps to go, Maverick Viñales fell off the bike before Turn 1, and the bike went on alone until it hit the protective barrier. The Yamaha Spaniard left without problems, but the incident caused a red flag. According to the team's information, the rider's bike was left without a brake.
At the moment of restart, the classification was: Mir, Nakagami, Miller, Espargaró, Rins, Binder in the first six places. Oliveira, Dovizioso, Lecuona and Quartararo completed the Top 10.
Mir managed to start better and came out on the edge again. Miller took second place again, and went on to compete with the Suzuki rider for the lead. Espargaró moved up to third, followed by Oliveira and Binder. Nakagami dropped to seventh.
The Australian from Ducati managed to take the lead and open a small advantage, leaving Mir to suffer pressure from the KTM of Espargaró. Right behind, Binder and Oliveira were in a beautiful contest for fourth place. Back there, leader Quartararo did not make a good start, dropping to 14th.
The group formed by Miller, Mir and Espargaró managed to move away from the other rivals, but the Australian had a more comfortable advantage at the end. With eight laps to go, Espargaró managed to pass Mir, leaving the Suzuki rider to Oliveira, who was approaching the group.
With four laps to go, Espargaró was on the edge, with Miller in second, Oliveira in third, Dovizioso in fourth and Mir falling to fifth.
In the end, the victory went to the Portuguese Miguel Oliveira, who took advantage of a clash between Espargaró and Miller in the last corner to pass the two. Miller and Espargaró completed the podium.
Closing the Top 10, Mir, Dovizioso, Rins, Nakagami, Binder, Rossi and Lecuona. Meanwhile, Quartararo was only 13th.
Now, MotoGP takes two weeks off before packing another triple round that will consist of the San Marino and Emilia-Romagna GPs, both in Misano, and the Catalunya GP in Barcelona.
