Dovizioso shows his worth
Italian wins again in the category after defining his future, not being part of Ducati in 2021
Andrea Dovizioso won again in MotoGP. He won his 15th victory in the category, in a race marked by the accident involving Johann Zarco and Franco Morbidelli, with one of the bikes almost reaching Valentino Rossi.
Joan Mir and Jack Miller completed the podium.
Fabio Quartararo had problems during the race, but managed to finish in eighth. Maverick Viñales had to deal with mechanical problems and saved 10th place.
At the start, Jack Miller jumped ahead, Viñales fell to fifth position. Dovizioso, Pol Espargaró and Mir advanced from second to fourth place. Quartararo was the sixth.
The Ducati Italian lost a bit of income, falling to fourth place, leaving Espargaró in second position and Mir in third. Valentino Rossi started very well, reaching seventh place in a few spins.
With 22 laps to go, Quartararo went straight and managed to get back, but fell to the last position.
On the next lap, a serious accident involving Joan Zarco and Franco Morbidelli. Both touched and the respective bikes passed very close to other riders, with Rossi almost being one of the affected ones.
Zarco walked out of the accident while Morbidelli was taken to the track's medical center for further examination. The red flag was triggered, with the race returning for another 20 laps.
Upon the restart, Miller led the way. Quartararo started his recovery test. Viñales fell to the last place with mechanical problems.
With 12 laps to go, Miguel Oliveira and Pol Espergaró went to the ground and had to leave.
Dovizioso took the lead with 11 turns left and Alex Rins, who was maneuvering for the lead, lost the bike and fell too.
With that, Dovi, Miller and Mir fought for the command of the race, with the three separated by less than a second.
Gradually, the Italian strayed from the competition and achieved his 15th career victory. Mir managed to overcome Miller in the last corners for second place.
MotoGP returns to Austria next weekend with the Styrian GP.
