AUTONEWS

The art of translating a genuine off-road

Walking fast and doing some skills behind the wheel, revealing an above-average control of man over the machine, is something that is substantially easier to achieve in a Ferrari or Lamborghini than in a truck or vehicle like that, which were designed to do a job more calmly, but days, months and years on end, without interruptions. Still, there is always someone who decides to give an air of grace and perform a maneuver as if it were a faena in a bullfight.
The action takes place in Chesterfield, England, in what appears to be a large scale work. The driver has at his disposal a Caterpillar articulated tractor, from 30 to 40 tons, with the capacity to transport between 20 to 30 thousand kilograms even in the worst of conditions, courtesy of its six-wheel drive.
The man's job is to drive the oversized vehicle through soggy, slippery terrain, carrying it down and then leaving the cargo somewhere up there. However, performing the reversal maneuver in a sea of mud is a slow process, as it is necessary to go very slowly to prevent the articulated monster from running away.
Now, it was here that the skill of the driver came in, who, in order to facilitate the maneuver and save some time in the process - also removing some enjoyment from the pirouette -, decided to pack it down there, turn to one side and then to the other, making a top Perfect. And with the reverse gear already engaged to go to the loading point, with the operator of the excavator having played the role of camera operator, certainly using the mobile phone.
