Tector GNC: Argentina's first mass-produced gas-powered truck

IVECO is the first automaker in Argentina to have the approval certificate to manufacture trucks powered by compressed natural gas (GNC), with the license (LCM - Model Configuration License) for the Tector 160E21.
The brand, which with the launch of its 'Natural Power' line, positioned itself as the first manufacturer to promote alternative fuels in Argentina, is now able to manufacture its new Tector GNC. “With a history of more than 20 years developing and marketing vehicles powered by clean energy in Europe, we are proud to be able to apply this experience and technology in Argentina, a country with great potential in terms of energy development”, said Márcio Querichelli, leader of IVECO in South America.
The new configuration of the product will offer equivalent performance to diesel powered trucks, with less emission of polluting gases and noise, and will also have a cost reduction of up to two thirds compared to models powered by fossil fuels.
“Tector GNC will be one of the production innovations at our Industrial Pole in Ferreyra, in the province of Córdoba, which will resume activities in August. This novelty will accompany our entire line manufactured in Argentina, ranging from medium vehicles to extra-heavy trucks ”, said Querichelli.

The truck will be the first member of the 'Natural Power' line to be produced in the South American country. The 160E21 version has 4x2 traction and is driven by the NEF 6 engine, FTO Industrial's OTTO cycle, with 210 hp and 750 Nm of torque.
“Our specialists carried out a series of exhaustive tests to obtain certification and achieve the ultimate goal of manufacturing the first GNC-powered truck in Argentina. This was an important achievement for the brand that will contribute to the development of the country and the region with regard to sustainability and preservation of the environment ”, said Querichelli.

The vehicle has six CNG tanks, each with 80 liters of volume, which allows a range of approximately 300 kilometers of autonomy, offering power and a low level of gaseous and noise emissions. In addition, it has a front parabolic suspension, a six-speed mechanical transmission and a driver's seat with air suspension. Another highlight is the modern and ergonomic interior with the transmission lever integrated into the panel.
