eBUDDY: THE MULTIPURPOSE MODULAR ELECTRIC

The German company Electric Brands, manufacturer of electric vehicles, announced an electric utility called eBussy that highlights modularity: a single chassis can be configured with 10 different bodies, adapting it for the most varied uses.

The chassis is available in two configurations: off-road and city. Bodies can be installed on it that will transform the eBussy into a van, urban cargo vehicle (VUC), pick-up or even a motorhome with a TV, refrigerator, bathroom and sink.

Instead of a single engine, the eBussy has an electric motor on each wheel, which together deliver a power of 20 hp. But as each engine directly controls a wheel, the torque capacity is immense: 1,000 Nm, equivalent to that of a sports supercar.

The eBussy weighs between 450 and 600 kg (without batteries), depending on the configuration chosen, but its load capacity is one ton. The standard battery has a capacity of 10 kWh and a range of 200 km. There is also the option of an extended battery, with a capacity of 30 kWh and a range of 600 km.

The steering system is ‘drive by wire’: that is, the steering wheel is not connected to a steering column. Instead, he sends electrical signals to the engines, which are in charge of turning the wheels. An advantage of this approach is that the steering wheel, levers and pedals can be positioned freely, either on the left (as in Brazil), on the right (as in the United Kingdom and Japan) or even in the center of the panel.
According to Electric Brands, eBussy will go on sale in Europe in early 2021. Prices vary by configuration, starting at 15,800 euros.
