CHRYSLER

A LEGEND THAT WON IN LE MANS IS FOR SALE

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, many iconic racing cars made history in different sports. One of the most representative, especially for a generation of young people growing up at the time with racing video games, was the Chrysler Viper GTS-R 2000, winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2000 and now just out on sale.
Although the production model was marketed under the Dodge brand (owned by Chrysler), in Europe it was decided that it would show Chrysler badges when competing.

The car in question is one of the Viper assembled by ORECA in France. It is the C31 chassis assembled in February 1999 and entered in the editions of the American Le Mans Series (AMLS) and in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2000.

This GTS-R Viper won the GTS class in seven of the ten ALMS races , including the 12 Hours of Sebring. In addition, with pilots Dominique Dupuy, Olivier Beretta and Karl Wendlinger, the Viper won the LMGTS category at Le Mans, surpassing another Viper and the then new Corvette C5-R.

The Viper racing program, which was officially supported by the manufacturer, ended after the 2000 season, and the victorious C31 chassis ended up being acquired by private users, who kept it active until 2005 competing from time to time. From that year, the vehicle underwent a complete restoration, valued at $500,000, to return it to its original state, including the legendary red decoration with sponsors such as Mobil1 and PlayStation.
The seller, LBI Limited, assures that this is probably the only Le Mans-winning Viper to go on sale. It is one of the most famous and revered American sports cars in the world of competition, and its 8.0-liter V10 engine delivering more than 600 hp is largely to blame. Its selling price was not disclosed, but it will be a value that should be around one million dollars.
