MERCEDES-BENZ

CLS 260 COUPE: LUXURY SEDAN AVOID HIGH TAXES IN CHINA

Sales of the Mercedes-Benz CLS have been picking up in all markets for some months now. The model of the German brand, which inaugurated the segment of sports sedans with a coupe aspect, suffered a knockout in this generation, and now its survival is on the line, especially with the arrival of the future Mercedes-Benz EQS.

A version has just been launched in China that could be destined to revitalize sales and lower emissions of the model, but it really appeared to reduce taxes. It is called CLS 260 and is the most basic version of the German model, equipped with a 4-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine. It offers reasonable performance, with a maximum power of 184 hp and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.7 seconds.

It is offered only with rear axle traction, 9-speed automatic transmission and the maximum speed reaches 250 km / h. The exterior image is more typical of basic versions, but the interior has all the luxury that characterizes this model and the brand, with a 12.3 inch screen, electric front seats, leather and decorative wooden inserts.

The German brand's decision was to reduce the taxes that China imposes on models. In the case of this particular version, the fact that it does not exceed 1,500 cubic centimeters means cutting the tax rate in half. For this reason, Mercedes-Benz reduced the displacement from 2.0 liters to 1.5 liters.
Still, its price is not cheap although it seems. In China, it is sold for 576,800 yuan.
