CHIRON PUR SPORT PREPARES AT THE GERMAN CIRCUIT OF BILSTER BERG
During the period of the canceled Geneva 2020 show, many brands revealed via streaming the news they had scheduled for the Swiss event. One of those who presented his latest creation was Bugatti, who delighted everyone with a special edition more focused on the track of the famous Chiron. Now that things seem to have returned to the rails after a good time of confinement by the global health crisis, the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport prepares to run on the Bilster Berg circuit in Germany.
A total of eight engineers, including development director Stefan Ellrott and chassis development chief Jachin Schwalbe, tested two pre-production prototypes of the new Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport on the 4,207-metre German racing circuit. The track includes 9 right and 10 left turns, as well as 44 ridges and slopes, with 20% ascents and 26% descents, with a change in elevation of 70 meters.
“This phase is crucial for development, because Chiron Pur Sport is configured for maximum lateral dynamic performance. Turns on the test track are incredibly important here, " Ellrott assures. "With Chiron Pur Sport, we seek a more extreme and radical development approach. It's the perfect car for all those drivers who enjoy the curves and want to feel a connection to the road."
Compared to the normal Bugatti Chiron, the Pur Sport weighs about 50 kg less, while the aerodynamic load increased, as well as the rigidity of the chassis. To this we must add a newly developed transmission with a ratio of changes 15% shorter, as well as an increase in the turning capacity of the engine. In addition, the sport + driving mode has been configured so that the stability control does not act and allows the driver to play with the rear axle of the hypercar.
"Even for our engineers, who are very familiar with Chiron, it's so much fun that they don't want to get out of the car. Chiron Pur Sport makes you a better rider, " explains Jachin Schwalbe.
Bugatti will begin serial production of the Chiron Pur Sport, which will be limited to only 60 units, during the second half of this year 2020. The price of each of these cars will fall to 3 million euros. On the other hand, the testing and development program of the new limited edition of the Bugatti sports car will continue in the coming weeks, only this time the famous Nürburgring circuit will be the scenario chosen by the manufacturer.
“The W16 engine with 1,500 hp and 1,600 Nm of torque now looks like it accelerates faster, providing a significantly more tangible and emotional driving experience, " says Stefan Ellrott. "Gear changes go through the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission at an ultra-fast pace at full load."
