.Fiat Chrysler starts production resumption in Brazil at a reduced pace

Fiat Chrysler on Monday announced the gradual restart of its vehicle factories in Brazil after 48 days of stoppage due to the consequences of the Covid-19 epidemic in the country.
The company stated that 4,300 employees at the plant in Betim (MG), the company's largest in Latin America, returned to work and that another 1,500 returned to their posts at the unit in Goiana (PE). In addition, 600 workers had already returned to the engine factory in Campo Largo (PR) on May 4.
The company has about 10,000 employees in Brazil divided by the three factories.
"In this first stage of resumption of operations, the priority will be the effective training of all employees for changes made to layouts and processes, considering the new safety and sanitation standards," said the automaker in a statement.
"The volume of production will follow a growth ramp during May, following the adaptation of the plants to the new procedures and market demand", added the company.
Before the suspension of activities in Brazil, on March 23, Fiat Chrysler's production pace was 1,600 vehicles per day in Betim and 1,000 in Goiana. In April, the country's entire vehicle industry produced 1,800 vehicles.
