Tramways and PHEV on the rise in Europe ... Diesel falling
In the last quarter of 2019, electric vehicles sold on European soil, as well as plug-in hybrids (PHEV), increased sales by 4.4%. According to ACEA, the association of European car manufacturers, demand for rechargeable vehicles, whether electric or PHEV, soared 81.3% in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Demand for hybrid vehicles continues to lead, among electrified motorized models, with a total of 252,371 units, which represents an increase of 69.2% compared to the same period in 2018. Given the limits imposed by Brussels, everything indicated that EV and PHEV sales represented 5% of the total.
Cars with a diesel engine saw demand decrease by 3.7%, now limited to 1 million units, equivalent to 29.5% of the share of new registrations. However, there were several markets in which the demand for diesel engines rose, especially France (7.3%), Germany (4.3%), Romania (31.1%), Sweden (30.5%) , Hungary (18.4%), Slovenia (18.2%) and Belgium (17.7%). This while the sale of models with a gasoline engine rose 57.3%.
