DODGE
Viper with 1420 HP spikes 406km/h
The Dodge Viper was for years one of the most exciting Super Sports of its time, manufactured from 1991 onwards. Extremely low, wide and long, its true trump card was the engine, an atmospheric V10 that derived from a brand truck that, after being thoroughly worked by Lamborghini, went on to provide high powers, from the initial 406 cv of 1991 to the 654 cv of the 2013 SRT Viper TA.
In 2006, Dodge's impressive sportsmanship extracted 517 hp from the atmospheric 8.3 V10 and was exactly one of those units which, after being blown by two turbochargers, saw its power almost tripling, now reaching 1420 HP. But despite the brutal increase in power and force, which also went off, Dodge continued to be approved to travel on the public highway, so it could apply to break the speed record.
To accomplish the feat, The Viper went to Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds, Florida, which was once known as the main landing site for the Space Shuttle. Its 4.35 km long track presents the ideal conditions for super-sports to reach their maximum speed in safe conditions. It was also there that the Bugatti Chiron managed to reach its maximum speed.
The Dodge Viper with 1420 HP slid off the track until it was able to set the limit at 252.588 miles (406 km/h), making this Viper the record holder among the models capable of running on the public highway. Interestingly, this value beats the speed of the space Shuttle on landing, knowing that this ship had so little support, due to its small wings, that it touched the ground at a speed far above normal. The proof is that while a commercial plane lands on average at 260 km / h, the Space Shuttle needed to reach the runway at 343 km/h so the pilot would have a minimum of control over the ship which, it's worth remembering, lands with the engines off.
