DAKAR 2020

X-RAID´S GOOD

Carlos Sainz leads the overall ranking and there are four Mini among the top ten. The X-Raid team can look back for a first week of success on the Dakar. Five of the six stages so far have been won by cars built by X-raid.
In addition, Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz lead the overall ranking in their Mini JCW Buggy. His teammates, Stéphane Peterhansel and Paulo Fiúza, are currently third parties.
The Argentineans Orlando Terranova and Bernardo Graue enter the second week of the race in fifth place overall, having led the rally after the second day. Saudi pilot Yasir Seaidan and his Russian navigator Alexey Kuzmich finished the first half of the race in ninth.
Vaidotas Zala and Saulius Jurgelenas produced the biggest surprise so far, right at the start of the event: the Lithuanian duo won the first stage of the Dakar on Saudi soil in their Mini John Cooper Works Rally and are currently 19th.
For Sven Quandt, leader of the X-raid: “so far, we can definitely say that this is a real Dakar, with hard terrain and extremely challenging navigation. However, I believe that is precisely why everyone loves it so much. It also reminds me of the African Rally. Once again, a look at the names at the top of the general classification shows how important the Dakar experience is. 'Orly' is performing very well and, unfortunately, the Kuba (Przygonski) had a problem with the Mini gearbox on the opening day. We hope to see a good battle for victory, until the end,” he said.
