DAKAR 2020
CARLOS SAINZ wins, Fernando Alonso is fifth place
Carlos Sainz was the winner of Stage 3 of Dakar 2020. The Spanish driver dominated most of the stage and took his Mini to the top of the table today.
Sainz just lost the lead in the WayPoint of the 200 km, at which time Nasser Al - Attiyah moved on to the front of operations. But Sainz regained the leadership in the next Control, which he never left until the end of the stage. It is the 33rd stage victory in the Dakar for the Spanish driver who thus assumes the leadership of the race.
Al-Attiyah finished second, more than three minutes away from the winner of the special and Jakub Przygonsk made a major recovery finishing in the top 3. At the passage of the first WayPoint was 12th and went up to the third.
Fernando Alonso was also featured with a remarkable recovery. In the first WayPoint was 8th up to the fourth in the second control and remained in that position near the end of the stage falling to fifth behind the surprising Yasir Seaidan.
Stéphane Peterhansel, navigated by Paulo Fiúza, also began the stage of the best form and remained in the top 3 for most of the day, being second to the passage of the last WayPoint. The last few miles have thrown the French pilot into seventh post.
A great reaction from Alonso
Following a more than tricky stage yesterday, Fernando Alonso has reacted perfectly on the third special. The Spaniard, alongside co-pilot Marc Coma, crossed the finishing line in fourth place, behind the surprising Yasir Seaidan.
