Where can you charge your EV? Canadian Tire, of course
Electrify Canada, the Volkswagen subsidiary that is building a network of electric-vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations across Canada (Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec, for now), has announced rollout plans for more than 20 installations at select Canadian Take locations in those four provinces.
“Canadian Tire is one of Canada's most recognizable and trusted retailers, making this a natural fit collaboration,” says Rob Barrosa, Chief Operating Officer of Electrify Canada. “We are thrilled to be entering a relationship with a company that has strong Canadian roots and shares the same values and core beliefs of providing convenience and reliability of services to users. Together we look forward to bringing a positive charge to EV drivers across the country. ”
In line with Electrify Canada's mandate to bolster the popularity of EVs and make it easier for Canadians to choose an EV over an equivalent internal combustion engine model, the inclusion of charging stations at Canadian Tire stores will make it easier for consumers to know where to stop when their vehicle batteries are nearing depletion.
“As a trusted Canadian brand that is part of communities from coast-to-coast-to-coast, Canadian Tire is responding to Canadians' desire to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, through initiatives that include making EV charging stations available at select locations. across the country, ”said Andrew Davies, Senior Vice President, Automotive, Canadian Tire. “At its roots, Canadian Tire is an automotive company, and for over 97 years we have evolved to meet the needs of our customers. We are excited to work with Electrify Canada to bring their leading-edge technology to our EV-driving customers. ”
The charging points at all Electrify Canada locations feature liquid cooled-cable 150-kW to 350 kW direct current (DC) fast chargers, which can be used by all EVs that comply with CCS (Combined Charging System) or CHAdeMO plugs. The former is primarily used on European and American vehicles, the latter on Japanese models.
The charging stations offer charging speeds of 50 kW and 150-350 kW, with all EVs able to use the 150-350 range chargers regardless of maximum charging capacity.
