Company develops revolutionary battery recycling system

Tesla has confirmed that it is developing its "revolutionary battery recycling system", which the company believes will enable big savings in the long run.

Tesla interested in battery recycling
This development was mentioned in the “Impact Report” presented by Tesla. Where in one of the chapters talk about the proposal to recycle batteries. That being a constant question, "What happens to Tesla car batteries when they reach their end of life?"
One big difference between fossil fuels and lithium batteries as energy sources is that fossil fuels are extracted and used only once, while materials in lithium batteries can be recycled.
When oil is extracted from the soil, it is chemically refined and then burned, releasing harmful emissions into the air and no longer being reused.
While the components of the batteries are refined, put into cells and thus will be used until their end of life, where they can be recycled for other use.

How will Tesla do to recycle batteries
Tesla's approach to recycling its batteries is slightly different from most battery manufacturers.
Producers such as Hyundai, BMW and Renault have indicated that they have plans to reclaim batteries used in power systems for other applications rather than new batteries to be applied to their cars.
For now, Tesla does not yet have a large volume of used batteries to be returned due to the end of their useful life, but it has some to come from departments such as production, quality control and operations, which is implementing its innovative recycling system. .
The company is even working with third parties to recycle parts of these batteries. The purpose of using third parties is to disassemble the batteries piece by piece to recover valuable metals.
Tesla partners ensure that all worthless or non-recycled components are disposed of as directed.
But this process will be temporary, as Tesla wants a unique solution for recycling its batteries. Innovative solution that will be put into practice at GigaFactory 1 in Nevada.

In the impact report Tesla spoke of its plans:
“At GigaFactory 1, Tesla is developing an innovative battery recycling system that will be responsible for battery production as well as end-of-life battery recycling.
Through this system, the recovery of valuable minerals such as lithium and cobalt will be maximized, as will the other metals used in battery cells such as copper, aluminum and steel. All of these materials will be recovered and reused optimally for the production of new batteries. ”

But it's not just Tesla that is working on end-of-life battery recovery and recycling systems. Like American Manganese, it has recently been able to extract from lithium batteries the material present in the battery's cathodes.

Tesla's goal to recycle its lithium batteries
Tesla CEO believes that with this innovative lithium battery recycling system you will achieve big savings. It will be an interesting solution that will allow the reduction of fossil fuel extraction.
Plus shipping and buying recycled materials is cheaper than new materials!
