MERCEDES-BENZ

Brand electric truck already has customers
Very soon, even the lorries delivering the goods in or around the major cities will be required to have an electric motor, either battery or fuel cell. And it appears that even before this option becomes mandatory by the legislator, some customers will force the introduction of electric heavy-duty vehicles, even to have access to areas where diesel-engined vehicles can not enter.
That is why Mercedes is quick to develop its fleet of large commercial vehicles the battery, starting with models with a gross weight of 18 and 25 tons. Both will be powered by two engines with a total of 250 kW of power, about 340 hp, powered by a battery of 240 kWh of capacity.
According to Mercedes, the two engines will be installed on the rear axle, next to the wheels, with 125 kW (120 hp) and 485 Nm of torque.
In terms of autonomy, Mercedes refers to 200 km as the maximum value, which will depend on the cargo transported as well as the terrain profile. To recharge, the battery can be connected by a CCS Combo socket with a power of up to 150 kW, to speed up the operation.
To better understand the needs of customers who are inclined to use electric trucks, Mercedes has predisposed itself to building a fleet of 10 heavy-duty vehicles, giving them to customers who will then share the advantages and disadvantages as well as the problems they face, to help develop the concept.
The last truck to be delivered is now in the service of the Nagel Group in Hamburg, a food specialist. The first models manufactured in series will be marketed from 2021, when Tesla and Nikola's competitors with higher powers and autonomies will already be available on the market. Autonews
