Second place Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari celebrates with his teamFerrari's best GP
German had Ferrari turbo problem in qualifying, but strategy and overtaking ensured turnaround
Sebastian Vettel secured what was Sunday's big turnaround: after starting last due to his Ferrari's turbo failure on Saturday, the home rider turned around and took second place at the German Formula One GP.
With treacherous rain falling on the Hockenheim circuit, Vettel was surgical overtaking and made no mistakes throughout the race. Aided by Ferrari, who got his hands on strategy and made the best tire choices for every moment of the race, the four-time champion climbed eighteen positions at Hockenheim.
The German, who paid tribute to Bernd Scheiner in his helmet this weekend, said the race, the longest of the year so far, seemed to "never end." He also valued the good form of Ferrari.
"Under these conditions, it is very difficult to understand which is the smartest maneuver," Vettel said. "At first, with the intermediate tires, I couldn't find the ideal shape, but eventually I managed to manage everything so it was good that the race lasted so long."
"I'm just happy! I think before the last safety car I realized I was a little faster and got good overtakes on the opposite straight. It was just a matter of passing the next car, and the next, and the next," commented the German. Motorsport
