AUTONEWS
With the worst first half since 2013, new vehicle sales in the UK hit the mark of 1,269,245 units, a fall of 3.4% over the same period of 2018. Leader among the automakers, Ford (127,789) was one of the main responsible for the negative numbers, with retraction greater than 12%.
VW (110,891) and Vauxhall (94,564) repeated the same podium of the first half of 2018, but narrowly: with the only growth of the top 5 (+ 1.8%), Mercedes-Benz (92,990) outperformed the archrival BMW 90,021) and was less than 2,000 units in the third position. It was Volvo (29,989), however, the champion of growth in the period (+ 27%).
Driving to 11th place in the lead, according to the Best Selling Cars, the Ford Fiesta (43,297) lost more than 13,000 buyers compared to 2018. Taking advantage of the great receptivity of the new generation, Ford Focus (32,239) grew and surpassed the VW Golf (31,493) in the dispute for the 2nd place. At the end of life, the current generation of the Vauxhall Corsa (29,982) climbed a position.
