Bavarian brand reveals possible rival of Tesla Model S

BMW has unveiled a new prototype electric car that can compete directly with the Tesla Model S in design and power. The vehicle looks like a 5 Series sedan, but it has an electric motor capable of going from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3 seconds.
Called Power BEV, the prototype has three electric drives instead of the combustion engine, which are already part of the company's fifth generation of electric automotive systems. It combines the engine, transmission and electric part of the vehicle in one place, in a design that should be used in a future collaboration with Jaguar and its Land Rover.
One of the electric units is mounted on the front suspension, with the two mounted on the rear. This generates a total delivery of 530 kW, or 720 horsepower. This helps the car reach the 100 km / h mark in approximately 3 seconds. The rear drive system can be controlled independently, allowing a different torque scheme.
While the common slip differential reacts to the rotation difference between the wheels, BMW's electric version can independently control how much force goes to the left or right wheel. This means that the BMW Power BEV can move force to the outside wheel when cornering, while automatically reducing the wheel from the inside to improve its stability.
BMW already has some electric vehicles in production, but no sedan completely without the use of fossil fuel, only hybrid cars and versions of the 5 Series and 7 Series. With the Power BEV prototype, the company crashes head-on with Tesla and its Model S. For now, BMW will have the BMW iX3, an electric version of the vehicle, but this should evolve over time and the arrival of new models is expected. Autonews
