THE NEW CZECH SEDAN NOW ALSO IN HYBRID VERSION PLUG-IN
Skoda's electric offensive began. The Czech manufacturer started its particular transition to electric mobility and did so with the presentation of two interesting models. On the one hand, the first electric car of Skoda, the Citigo-e iV. And on the other, the company's first hybrid plug-in car, the new Skoda Superb iV.
Skoda Superb's expected mid-life upgrade is already a reality. One of the most popular sedans on the European market is updated in terms of design as well as technological and, above all, mechanical. One of the big news that debuted with the new Superb is undoubtedly the hybrid plug-in version that receives the 'iV' tag.
Aesthetically the Skoda Superb iV does not show great differences compared to the versions with internal combustion engine. On the back comes the 'iV' emblem that refers to an electrified vehicle and the battery charge socket is on the front. The lid is perfectly integrated into the grid. It shows all the aesthetic evolutions introduced in the new Superb line. From the grid to the optical groups passing through the bumpers. In relation to the interior of the new Superb iV also appear differentiating elements. Equipped as standard with a Maxi DOT color screen although it is optionally possible to configure the 10.25 inch digital instrument panel. The infotainment system, which is also new, allows access to specific services such as charging point locations.
The Amundsen navigation system uses an 8.0-inch touchscreen, while the Columbus system has a 9.2-inch touchscreen. The driver has at his disposal in the central console the controls that allow him to choose between three modes of conduction: E-Mode, Hybrid and Sport. Through a mobile application you can remotely know the status of the battery as well as turn on the air conditioner.
Among the various online digital services there is the possibility of knowing the real-time traffic situation and knowing the weather forecast. For a year you will be able to receive free updates to your browser maps. In addition, thanks to SmartLink technology allows the use of Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirror Link. On the other hand, and not least, Skoda offers a long list of driving assistance systems, such as the tow assistant, adaptive cruise control, track maintenance assistant and stand-alone emergency braking with pedestrian detection, among others .
As for the mechanical part of the new Skoda Superb iV, as we pointed out at the outset, this is the first hybrid car plug-in Skoda. The system consists of a 1.4 TSI 156 hp petrol engine, which is combined with a small 85 kW (116 hp) electric motor. The system reaches its maximum power when choosing the mode of driving Sport: 218 hp and 400 Nm of maximum torque. All this is governed by a DSG six-speed automatic transmission. The 13 kWh lithium-ion battery allows the Skoda Superb iV to homologate a 55-km range in 100% electric mode according to the WLTP cycle. It complies with the Euro 6d-TEMP standard and announces CO2 emissions of 40 g / km. The battery is installed on the floor of the chassis, in front of the front axle.
Regarding charging times, the battery can be charged for one night using a household power outlet. If the option is for a Wallbox of 3.6 kW, the charging time is only 3 hours and 30 minutes. Autonews
