Indy 500: Simon Pagenaud, 18th Penske win

Simon Pagenaud, a Team Penske-Chevrolet rider, won the Indianapolis 500 after a big fight with Andretti Autosport-Honda riders Alexander Rossi. The final 14 laps were breathtaking, with the triumph being held by the Frenchman, who led 116 of the 200 laps of the race.
Simon Pagenaud, who started from pole, had to overcome a late restart in the race after an accident that involved five single-seater. After that, passed Alexander Rossi, who twice retaliated successfully. However, the Penske rider finally passed him on Turn 3, on the penultimate lap, then keeping his rival at a distance that allowed him to cut the finish line in front.
Takuma Sato (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing / Honda) completed the podium, after passing through Ed Carpenter and Josef Newgarden in the final stage of the race. Carpenter was behind the winner of 2018, Will Power, who overcame a penalty, even reaching the fifth place.
Santino Ferrucci escaped an accident in the final stage of the race, caused by the collision of his teammate Sebastien Bourdais with Graham Rahal. The young American finished seventh, becoming the 'Rookie of the Year'. After a difficult season last year at F2, with many problems, that's a good 're-launch' prize.
In addition to eliminating Felix Rosenqvist, driver of Chip Ganassi Racing, this incident also caused damage in the single-seat of Swedish team-mate Scott Dixon, who had to go to the pits for repairs, finishing only 17th.
