McLaren wants to play full season in the top American category
McLaren boss Zak Brown revealed that the team is waiting for a permanent seat at IndyCar, with shareholders supporting the decision.
Fernando Alonso will race to this year's Indy 500, the Spaniard's second time with McLaren, in his quest for the Triple Crown. Alonso has already won the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with only 500 Indianapolis remaining to complete the feat.
Brown praised the event and the category: "We are big fans of this series of races. I think Mark Miles and his team did a great job.
"The races are great - great teams, great riders and great locations," said Brown, who was present at Sunday's Long Beach GP.
"So it's a place that McLaren would like to race."
Despite the focus on Formula One, the American intends to expand the performance of McLaren.
"We are very focused on Formula 1, and we will continue to be very focused on Formula 1, but now we have concluded the hiring of the leaders for the F1 team, James Key started as technical director and Andreas Seidl is the managing director of the Formula 1 team.
"They will be joining next month, and we really need to get this done," Brown told Motorsport.com.

"And then, thinking ahead and getting the equipment, making the investment to race in Indianapolis this year in the way we're doing is another step in that direction," he added.
Brown said that participation in IndyCar has the full support of McLaren investors, but stressed the importance of the momentum happening in relation to Formula 1.
"I need to be convinced about the timing of change.
"I'm convinced we should be at IndyCar, but I need to make sure we're happy with our position in Formula 1.
"We had a good period of off-season and good first races, but it was just a few races.
"This weekend (in China) was not a great weekend so far, but we knew it would be like this with the close squad."
"But shareholders are very supportive of IndyCar races. It is only a matter of when, of what if, and this will be a collective decision.
"If it's going to happen in 2020, I think we need to make that decision in the summer to be properly prepared.
"I will continue with the final recommendation when the time is right and when we, as an organization, can carry out several series of competitions in a competitive way, without one draining the resources of another. And we're not there yet. "
The Indy 500 will take place on May 26 and will mark Alonso's second attempt to win the race in his quest for the Triple Crown, won only by Graham Hill - in 1972 after winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Hill won the Monaco F1 Grand Prix in 1963, 64 and 65 in 1966 to earn the Indianapolis 500. He also won the Monaco Grand Prix in 1968 and 1969. Autonews/Mundoquatrorodas
