INDYCAR

CORVETTE: INDIANAPOLIS 500 MI OFFICIAL PACE CAR

Again a version of the Chevrolet Corvette C7 will be the official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500. A task that is still a simple promotional maneuver, but also an honor in the American market.
So it's no surprise that Chevrolet attaches great importance to this event, as demonstrated by the 29 previous appearances of brand models such as Pace Car race officials. Since the 1948 edition of the Indy 500, when a Chevrolet Fleetmaster Six Convertible has fulfilled that function.
So this will be the 30th participation of a model of the brand in this race, although on most occasions it was a Chevrolet Corvette model chosen, being the first time in the 1978 edition. This time the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport version, which features the same set of mechanics and transmission of the regular versions, but with the chassis and aerodynamic improvements of the most powerful version Corvette Z06. Precisely the Corvette Grand Sport was the Pace Car of the 2017 edition of the Indy 500.
The specimen featured is red 'Long Beach Red Metallic Tintcoat' with silver 'Blade Silver' silver stripes and features the usual spellings commonly used by all official Pace Car, who were also present in the limited edition Pace Car Edition that the Chevrolet used to cast from the model. The last time we could see a Corvette with this decoration was during the Indy 500 of 2018, in which the chosen Pace Car was the powerful Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, which equipped with the optional aerodynamic package ZTK and its powerful supercharged 6.2 liter V8 LT5 engine of 765 hp (755 hp), is to this date the most powerful Pace Car in the history of this race. The ZR1 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 2.85 seconds and reach a top speed of 341 km/h. Autonews
