TESLA
Model Y is official. With 540 km of autonomy
As promised, Tesla unveiled this early morning crossover entry into its range. Looks like a small Model X, the Model Y is based on the Model 3 and will cost little more than the Californian electric saloon, with the advantage of offering a generous tailgate, plenty of space in the passenger compartment and the best price / , among the SUVs.
The range will consist of four versions: Standard and Long Range with rear-wheel drive and a single engine; Long Range and Performance with all-wheel drive and two engines. And, as with Model 3, the entry version will be the last to hit the market in the spring of 2021. The remainder are scheduled for autumn next year.
The top-of-the-range version is the Dual Engine Performance AWD, which announces 480 km of autonomy with a single load (brand estimate for the WLTP cycle), meets 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds and reaches 241 km / of maximum speed. The Long Range four-wheel drive version has a slightly lower performance (top speed of 217 km / h and 100 km / h after starting stopped after 5.1 seconds), but on the other hand, the range is up to 505 km. The best range, however, is claimed by this same version, but only with rear-wheel drive. In this case, a load can travel up to 540 km, the 100 km / h arrive after 5.8 seconds, with the speedometer to stop at 209 km / h. The least expensive OY is proposed in the US for values starting at $ 39,000 (€ 34,444) and announces 390 km of WLTP driving range, reaching 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds, then reaching 193 km / h tip.
If the Portuguese market follows in the footsteps of what is planned for Spain, then the Y will start reaching customers in early 2021, that is, after starting to satisfy the domestic market reserves, which have already opened and require a deposit of $ 2,500. Here, the prices of the most affordable Long Range start at € 56,000, with all-wheel drive going up to € 61,000, with Performance demanding € 69,000. Comparing these values with those that are also practiced in Spain for the Model 3, in the versions that are already on sale, we have that Model Y Long Range AWD costs more 5,000 € than Model 3 equivalent, the difference being lower in Performance ( € 2,100). If this price difference is respected, the most expensive version of the American crossover is expected to be sold in the order of € 70,000, since the equivalent of € 3,000 costs € 68,000 in Portugal. The Long Range with two engines will budgeted at € 61,900, assuming the above mentioned assumption. And if these figures come to be confirmed, then the more expensive Model Y will be cheaper than the more affordable version of I-Pace, which is marketed between us for € 80,417.
Although smaller than the Model X (measures have not been disclosed), Model Y is surprising because it also offers up to seven seats (optional), if that is what the customer wants. And in the United States, for example, this feature has attracted a growing number of buyers, with 60% preferring to purchase a model with three rows of banks. When the second and third row seats are lowered, the maximum capacity of the luggage compartment is 1,869 liters. Tesla did not disclose the volume of the suitcase with the seats in the normal position.
Generous in height, the cabin comfortably accommodates taller occupants and provides them with a minimalist ambience, following the footprints of the Model 3. Just as in the saloon, the crossover displays a central 15-inch screen at the center, from which all vehicle features are controlled.
In terms of driving assistance, the Y equipped with Autopilot has 12 chambers, other as many ultrasonic sensors and a radar at the front, which serve as the basis for a level 2 of autonomous driving. That is, the tram makes the driver's life easier by combining the adaptive cruise control with the maintenance assistant on the roadway and the detection of obstacles with emergency braking. According to the brand, the Y can go up one degree in autonomy, that is, move to level 3 without additional hardware being required.
As for loading, the Tesla crossover is compatible with the third-generation supercharger network (V3), which allows to supply 250 kW. Under these conditions, it takes five minutes for a Model 3 Long Range to receive power to run for 121 km.
The presentation provided the opportunity to take a walk in Model Y and whoever tried to record the moment, as you can see in the videos below.
