TESLA
Jato released data on the European market in February and not all was good news for a region that recorded the sixth consecutive month of sales failure. But if this news did not cheer the sector, there was another that pleased and much to Tesla. In its first full month of sales in the Old Continent, the American brand got its new Model 3 to be the best selling electric, beating the traditional leaders Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf. Simultaneously, the most affordable Tesla has dominated the D-segment luxury brands. This means that the exclusively electric Model 3 has hit the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, even counting all petrol, diesel and hybrids.
February saw demand for gasoline continue to climb, reaching 58% (55% in 2018), sending diesel to 34% (after reaching 39% in 2018), with hybrids, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and (BEV) to increase from 5.1% to 6.5%.
Among the BEVs, Model 3 sold 3,630 units, despite offering only the most expensive versions, offered for values starting at 60 thousand euros, surpassing Zoe (2,884 units) and Leaf (2,333 units). Already in the PHEV was the Mitsubishi Outlander speaking higher (2,673 units), ahead of the Volvo XC60 (1,233) and the BMW 5 Series (953). As for hybrids, the most sought-after was the Toyota CH-R with 8,690 units, ahead of Yaris (8,222) and RAV4 (4,976).
According to Felipe Munoz, global analyst at Jato, the performance of the Model 3 is even more impressive in the luxury segment because "as in the American market, Tesla is shaking the European luxury segment, surpassing the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, in addition to the Volvo and Jaguar, although it counts exclusively on private sales, as Tesla is out of the fleet and rent-a-car business ", which lower margins.
The only segments that grew in February were SUVs, vans and sports cars. Volkswagen was the top seller (with 130,241 vehicles), ahead of Peugeot (79,507), Renault (78,714), Ford (72,682) and Opel (62,801). Among the models, the most popular was Golf, with 31,769 traded units, followed by Clio (26,062), Polo (22,610), C3 (19,788) and 208 (19,462). Autonews
