MERCEDES-BENZ

AMG GT R-One Hardcore Softop

The Mercedes-AMG GT is now available with a soft top-but it is not mistaken, this track-ready sports car is still every bit as hardcore as the coupe.
Powering the 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster is the same 577 hp 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 as the fixed-roof model. The V8 is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and allows for the convertible to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.5s and reaches the top end of 197 mph. All the other important equipment from AMG GT R coupe is also present on the Roadster, including the front splitter, rear wing, lightweight 10-spoke wheels, dynamic engine and transmission mounts, rear-wheel steering system, aluminum double wishbone suspension and adaptive dampers.

The sports car's three-layered fabric soft top is held up by a lightweight skeleton made of magnesium, steel, and aluminum that helps keep the vehicle's center of gravity low, Mercedes says. An inserted acoustic mat also ensures cabin noise levels are befitting of a six-figure car. AMG's familiar coupe gets a new multi-function steering wheel for 2020 as well, which features a nifty digital LCD display for the vehicle's nine-stage traction control system. The wheel also has two freely configurable display buttons on the left-hand side that can be mapped with other AMG functions. Joining the wheel is Mercedes' twin 10.25- and 12.3-inch digital clusters, which have special screen settings and modes for AMG vehicles. "With our GT R Roadster we have no doubt once again developed a brand-defining sports car," said AMG chairman Tobias Moers. "It also embodies Mercedes-AMG in form, function and vehicle dynamics and enriches our GT family with a highly exclusive variant limited to 750 units."
