FÓRMULA-1

The time differences between Pirelli tires

According to Pirelli, its compounds have performance differences between 0.6s and 1.0s. When going more closely, from tire C1 to C2: 0.8 the margin is from 0.8s to 1.0s, from C2 to C3: 0.7s; C3 to C4: 0.6s; C4 to C5: 0.6s.
Therefore, when looking at a timesheet in which the best records of each rider and the tire with which they are made are referred to, there is then time taken out in order to virtually equalize the registers. Of course this will never be an exact science and gives just the idea of the time that could have been made, not meaning that this would be so since there are too many variables that have to be taken into account when it comes to making comparisons. These new regulations of 2019, with different aerodynamics and heavier cars, make a lot of difference and the teams still do not completely dominate their cars, because until now there have been only six days of testing.
On the other hand, the track surface in Barcelona has matured since last year, becoming more abrasive and now offers more mechanical grip. In addition, the emphasis of the first test had more to do with the reliability and validation of cars and this week, teams are already focusing more on performance and better exploring all single-seat capacities.

C2 to C3: 0.7s
C3 to C4: 0.6s
C4 to C5: 0.6s José Luis Abreu, direto de Portugal
