AUTONEWS

Betrayal, false statements, manipulation, distortion of reality. These were the ingredients that tempered the first interview given by Carlos Ghosn, the former strong man of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, who has been imprisoned since the end of November.
The conversation with the journalists of the Japanese Nikkei Asian Review lasted only 20 minutes, more than enough time for the Franco-Brazilian manager to reiterate his innocence, which he has already done before the judge, although he has remained in detention. The novelty is that, for the first time, the executive advances explanations to justify the state in which it is. He says he is being the victim of a conspiracy with Nissan to prevent the merger with Renault.
Ghosn assures that top leaders of the Japanese builder were against this operation and will have found a way to block it by constructing a narrative that would discredit him at the cost of false claims. In addition to denying all allegations of wrongful payment, tax fraud and false financial statements, the executive ensures that the homes he owns in Rio de Janeiro and Beirut have been approved by Nissan's legal department. "Some people have distorted reality, turning my strong leadership into a dictator's stance, in order to get rid of me," he says.
