RIVIAN
Brand presents its 100% electrified SUV
They have been working almost sneaky for nine years, as little or nothing has been heard of their projects, but Rivian is taking advantage of this edition of the Los Angeles Show to start showing service. The first model revealed was a pick-up - bodywork so the Americans like - and the second is also official. If the former is called R1T (Rivian 1 Truck), the SUV assumes a trade designation on the same line: R1S.
In technical terms, the startup founded by RJ Scaringe takes advantage of the base of the pick-up to assemble the SUV and this is evident, from the outset, in the aesthetics. On the outside, this is an SUV that seems to have dimensions and proportions similar to that of R1T, although they are not, simply choosing to 'stretch' the lines towards the rear. Curiously, the solution is simple but it does, giving the R1S a solid yet lightweight image without any very sharp or angled lines.
To the fluidity of the exterior, the Rivian SUV adds a pickled interior to the pick-up. In the passenger compartment, with space for seven (2 + 3 + 2), there is the same feeling of space, wood notes and two huge screens at the front, exactly the same dimensions as those on the R1T - digital instrument panel with a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia center with 15.6.
Proving that SUV and pick-up share the technical approach, even the leading and trailing angles of both models are 34 and 30 respectively. The same is true of the range, whose entry version has a battery pack of 105 kWh to power the 408 hp of power charged by the four electric motors (one per wheel, so all versions are always full-wheel drive ). In return, Rivian asks $ 65,000 for an SUV that, in this configuration, promises to do more than 386 km. The intermediate version assembles a pack of 135 kWh (764 hp, 500 km of autonomy) and the top one continues to resort to a battery of 180 kWh. In the latter case, there is only room for five occupants and the power low for 709 hp, but the autonomy amounts to 680 km, with the acceleration from 0 to 96 km / h to consume scarce 3.2 seconds. It should also be borne in mind that the announced scope complies with the EPA standards, so the autonomy would be even higher in a WLTP approval.
