MERCEDES-BENZ PRESENTS NEW SOLUTIONS FOR REDUCING FUEL CONSUMPTION ON ROAD BUS

In order to ensure a reduction in fuel consumption for passenger road transport companies, Mercedes-Benz launches a Fuel Efficiency reduction package for its 500 RS, RSD and RSDD chassis. As a result, new features such as: new parameterization of the automated gearbox Mercedes PowerShift GO 240, engine air compressor with energy optimization, electronic management of the radiator fan, torque increase for the OM 457 LA 360 engine cv and automatic engine shutdown system."The cost of fuel is one of the most important items in managing a fleet. That's why we have not stopped developing new solutions to meet our customers' needs for reducing consumption, "says Walter Barbosa, Director of Sales and Marketing of Mercedes-Benz Buses in Brazil. "The Fuel Efficiency Package is the latest demonstration of this commitment. According to the model and the items chosen by the customer, in addition to the operating and driving conditions of the vehicle, a reduction of 2% to 8% in fuel consumption can be achieved compared to current versions of the 500 "chassis.According to the executive, with the 'Fuel Efficiency' Package, the customer wins in the short and long term. "With the lower consumption, the technological innovations provide a reduction of the operational cost and an improvement of the TCO, which is the total operational cost of the vehicle over its useful life," says Walter Barbosa. "This results in a great cost-benefit ratio and greater profitability for the passenger transport companies."The 'Fuel Efficiency' Package reinforces the positioning of the Mercedes-Benz bus line as the most technologically advanced in the country, highlighting 21 advanced items that guarantee a high standard of performance, economy, comfort and safety in passenger transport.

New parameterization of the Mercedes PowerShift automated teller machine
Serial item for the chassis The 500 RSDD 8x2 and optional for O 500 RS 4x2 and O 500 RSD 6x2, the automated box Mercedes PowerShift GO 240, of 8 speeds, has gained a new program of change of gears. Software optimization has resulted in faster gear shifts, more agility in the outputs and resumes, and higher cruising speeds at low speeds.
In addition to the reduction in fuel consumption, the new parameterization brings benefits such as greater driver comfort for the driver and greater robustness and reliability of the automated Mercedes PowerShift.

Engine Air Compressor with Power Optimization
New for the 500 RS, RSD and RSDD chassis, Mercedes-Benz has developed an optimized engine air compressor power. The concept is based on reducing the load on the engine when the air system is fully charged. In this situation, there are then reductions in working temperature and noise level. Consequently, there is a decrease in fuel consumption, as well as ensuring a longer compressor life.

New electronic radiator fan management
This technology is also new for the O 500 RS, RSD and RSDD chassis. The new electronic radiator fan management, called Visctronic, ensures more precise control of the engine cooling system. In addition, it optimizes fan speed control and ensures less noise caused by this component.Visctronic reduces fuel consumption and provides longer belt life. The system offers even greater simplicity over competitors, making maintenance easier.

More torque for the engine OM 457 LA of 360 hp
The 360 hp OM 457 LA engine of the O 500 RS 1836 and O 500 RSD 2436 chassis also brings newness to the Fuel Efficiency Package concept. The main highlight is the increase in torque from 1,600 Nm to 1,850 Nm at 1,100 rpm. This results in cruising speeds (80 km / h or 90 km / h) at lower speeds. The higher torque gains a new combination with the over drive gearbox and rear axle reduction. This technological solution provides the reduction in fuel consumption.

Automatic engine shut-off systemThe whole line of Mercedes-Benz road chassis has been equipped with EIS (Engine Idle Shutdown), an innovative automatic engine shut-off system for the bus segment. If the bus is stopped, but with the engine switched on, it shifts in the neutral position and the handbrake is activated in a situation that lasts for a long period of time (for example, 4 minutes) without the driver speeding up the vehicle or operating the service brake, the system goes into action and automatically shuts off the engine. This is a very common situation in garages, road, urban terminals and stopping points. In these circumstances, the EIS kicks in, providing savings in fuel consumption, as well as reducing pollutant and noise emissions. This solution contributes to the driver's awareness of the need to switch off the engine if the vehicle is stationary for an extended period of time.New - Mercedes-Benz GO 190 exchange for O 500 RThe O 500 R chassis, suitable for short distances and regular or occasional charter operations, is now equipped with the 6-speed Mercedes-Benz GO 190 gearshift. The great highlight of the GO 190 gearbox is the joystick-type gearshift lever with a servo-assisted system, which offers outstanding comfort and ease of operation, thus providing greater satisfaction and less effort for the driver. Passengers also gain more comfort on board, due to the reduction of the typical bumps of the changes driven by cable.
