INDYCAR

ROSSI TAKES ONE MORE IN LONG BEACHThere was no other possible winner for the Long Beach GP. On a perfect weekend, Alexander Rossi quietly completed his mission on Sunday (15). The American escaped from a very tumultuous event and won with some ease, although Will Power tried something in the final stretch. With the triumph, Rossi won the third podium in three races and took the lead of the championship. It was Rossi's third Indy victory, which until recently was only remembered for his F1 victory and unlikely victory as a rookie in the Indy 500 of 2016. Beyond him and Power, Ed Jones sought an unlikely podium much more in tactics than in but got vital points for Ganassi.Zach Veach sought his best result at Indy with fourth place ahead of a Graham Rahal who recovered well from a muddled start. Marco Andretti came in sixth, with Josef Newgarden just behind.Tony Kanaan made another good run for Foyt and reached eighth place, keeping up with one of the main names in the middleweight. James Hinchcliffe was ninth, with Charlie Kimball pursuing Carlin's first top-10. Matheus Leist was 14th, receiving a penalty in the end for blocking Sébastien Bourdais, who did a great race despite the 13th place finish. The riders rallied on lap 77, for the last eight laps of the race. Kanaan did a great job and won Newgarden's seventh position, while Jones and Veach were in a nice third-place match but far from Rossi and Power, who really promised a fight for the win.The two escaped, but Rossi managed, all the time, to maintain a safe advantage to even take shocks with Power. There was the third victory of the American in Indy. Veach also failed to beat Jones, but at least he held Rahal.
