BRAND CONFIRMS THAT IT IS WORKING ON A NEW ALL-LAND
The integration of Mitsubishi in the Renault-Nissan Alliance, in principle, seems to be going well. A few days ago, the re-elected CEO of the French-Japanese group, Carlos Ghosn, announced at the presentation of the 'Alliance 2022 Plan' how this project will be carried out, since he has made it very clear that it will be very profitable for the three diamond brand, also for Renault and Nissan. One of the premises established in the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance is that the companies that form it (with the exception of the subsidiary companies that depend on each major brand) are independent at the time of charting their way. Therefore, it is not surprising that the last company to join the alliance that has already confirmed the first model emerged to the heat of the vast technological arsenal that has at its disposal.Whoever reported that the Japanese brand is working on a new model was Tsuneshiro Kunimoto, VP and General Design Director of Mitsubishi. According to their statements, the brand will continue to grow as they are working on a new off-road that will help the company achieve its goals. So, given your words, we can think of three different alternatives because the newly released Eclipse Cross is very new and was designed in the pre-alliance era.
On the one hand, it may be a compact size model (below Eclipse Cross) to replace the veteran ASX. On the other hand, the current Outlander generation has been on the market for some good years, and although it has been revised in Geneva, they may be working on developing a new edition. And last but not least, the veteran Pajero urgently needs a replacement in the market. Now, if we pay attention to the rumors circulating on the net, the last hypothesis is not the most reasonable, but it seems to have the most strength. According to some, the model we are talking about could be the substitute for Pajero, as it would be developed taking advantage of the platform and technology of the Nissan Armada (Patrol in some markets). However, this idea does not seem to be the best, because if Mitsubishi's goal with this new SUV is to boost its sales, launching a pure all-terrain does not seem to be the right strategy. In any case, it will be necessary to wait for new news, because Kunimoto did not confirm the launch date nor the segment in which this new off-road will operate.
