The new generation of the GMC Sierra 1500

GMC Sierra 1500, the full-size pickup truck of General Motors GMC division, was presented today at an event in Detroit, a few months after the new Chevrolet Silverado was unveiled, since both share most of the technical approach, with the exception of aesthetics.So the news of the new model are almost the same as they have debuted at Silverado a few months ago. The platform is completely new, now has a larger and stiffer chassis, and considerably lighter thanks to the use of materials such as high strength steels, aluminum and even carbon fiber, a material that is not common to be found in such a model. Like the Silverado, the Sierra uses these materials even for the body-on-frame chassis frames themselves, since they are made of aluminum.

Like the Chevrolet Silverado 2019, the new GMC Sierra is slightly longer and has a larger wheelbase, but its weight has been reduced by no less than 163 pounds, which increases to 191 pounds if we count with the new rear bucket carbon fiber optional. The rigidity of the set increased by 10%.The customer can choose between the classic bucket made of metal or the optional carbon fiber, the latter has the interior panels and the floor itself made in this light and expensive material. The weight savings with this option is 28 poundsAs well as sharing the technical side, the Sierra and Silverado share the interior, with the same panel and controls, though with new finishes and equipment elements, such as a new 8.0-inch color screen and screen display system in the Denali finishing. We also found an advanced rear view camera system with zoom.
Despite all its similarities, the truth is that the Silverado and the Sierra are not very similar. Both models have always tried to maintain their own identity, but with this new generation, the designers of General Motors went a step further, considerably distancing the two models at the aesthetic level.If the Silverado has a more modern and technological image, breaking with the molds of the traditional full-size pick-up segment, the Sierra shows precisely the most classic aesthetic, offering a very robust and powerful image. Its huge grille and large 'C' -shaped lanterns in the case of LED daytime optics offer a classic print highlighting its size. The rear features the same C-shaped design on the lanterns.Regarding the mechanical part, we find the same options of the Silverado, two V8 engines of 5.3 and 6.2 liters, in addition to the new block of six cylinders turbodiesel with 3.0 liters. The V8 engines will feature the new 10-
speed automatic transmission.
