ELECTRIC TRUCKS OF THE SCANDINAVIAN BRAND ARE ALREADY READY TO WIN THE ROADS
Volvo joins the list of manufacturers who are working on the creation of an electric truck. A purpose that goes in the purest style of Tesla: at full speed and setting deadlines difficult to believe. The Swedish brand informs that it will have its electric trucks on the road already this year and that it will begin to sell them in 2019.Claes Nilsson, CEO of Volvo Trucks, said: "The electromobility is fully in tune with the long-term commitment of Volvo trucks to sustainable urban development and zero emissions. We believe in the complete electrification of urban freight transport as a first step. However, we are already working on electrification for other transportation applications. This is just the beginning. "The truth is that those responsible for the Swedish brand are so confident that they can meet deadlines, even dare to anticipate that some of their electric trucks will be delivered to "a few selected reference customers" by the end of this year.It is not known whether they will meet such short deadlines, but Volvo Trucks is not new to either truck or electric vehicle manufacturing. Its electric buses have been up and running for a long time, and so have their hybrid trucks, which have been in service since 2010. Geely also has the backing of Geely, who acquired 8.2% of Volvo Trucks' shares. Recalling that this Chinese group already owns Volvo Cars, Polestar and Lotus.Jonas Odermalm, head of vehicle product strategy for Volvo Trucks, commented: "Electric vehicles themselves are only part of what is needed for large-scale electrification to succeed." And he continued: "We are working closely with customers, cities, cargo infrastructure providers and other key institutions to create the necessary framework for our electric trucks."The current trend is to build large capacity trucks, such as Tesla Semi and Nikola One, although there are also some medium-truck projects that will compete with Volvo. For example, Daimler has already started selling fully electric trucks in some European countries and Volkswagen is investing good money to develop such vehicles.
