RALLY DAKAR 2018
Dakar, Stage 6: Carlos Sainz wins and heals time
Carlos Sainz dominated the sixth stage of the Dakar, finishing the 4m06 lap ahead of his team-mate Stéphane Peterhansel, who is now less than half an hour ahead of the Spaniard ahead of the race.Nasser AlAttiyah was third, 5m05s from Sainz, with Giniel de Villiers to be 26 seconds behind. Cyril Després finished the day in fifth at 8m49s, just in front of Mikko Hirvonen. Bernard Ten Brinke came in fifth in the middle of the stage but then lost gas and finished behind the two Buggies. With these results, Peterhansel maintains the leadership reached in the third stage, losing a little time today, but nothing very significant. As for Carlos Sainz, after starting the Dakar a little bit badly, in all the stages was going up positions, and today is the first day that wins ... and not about the classification, because now it is missing the most difficult, to reach the leadership.Bernard Ten Brinke is third overall and the best of the Toyota, although he has less than four minutes' lead for Nasser Al-Attiyah who is fourth placed. Fifth place for Giniel de Villiers, eleven minutes behind his team-mate, meaning that the three Toyota fit in a quarter of an hour. The best Mini is now Jacob Przygonski in Mini All4 Racing, which today has gone up from eighth to sixth, supplanting the two buggies of Eugenio Amos and Khalid Al Qassimi, who had a bad day today. The Italian dropped from seventh to ninth and the Abu Dhabi driver from sixth to eighth. Who also rose two positions was Martin Prokop, who passes to seventh. Closing the top 10, P. SireyJol. Carlos Sousa was 17th in the stage, now 25th overall. Now that the race is going to enter a phase in which it will be more complicated, the differences are very great, as the courses are more defined, as it has happened today, it is difficult to recover great differences, although there is still a lot of off- desert. Tomorrow is a day of rest, but then there is a two-day marathon stage, with the Argentine dunes appearing only on Tuesday.
