QSK 38 TIER 4 FOR THE MARITIME MARKET
Provider of powertrain technology solutions, Cummins announces new US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 service for QSK 38 Marine. The largest independent manufacturer of diesel and gas engines combined the industry-leading Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system produced by Cummins Emission Solutions to the marine engine. From 2019, the QSK 38 Tier 4 will be available for the global marine market."We are excited to bring a proven technology to the maritime market that encompasses our mission and values; our goal is to serve the industry with quality and environmentally friendly solutions. Cummins has more than 10 years of experience in SCR technology for road and off-highway equipment. This is a clean and efficient technology that will be very well received, "said Jim Schacht, CEO of Cummins Global Marine Business. The new Cummins QSK 38 Tier 4 engine will be delivered with detailed installation support and flexible SCR system, which eliminates complexity, saving time and reducing costs for each project. The sensors located in the SCR are capable of monitoring system performance, allowing accurate injections of urea to neutralize emissions. By monitoring data and ingesting urea properly, the Cummins system ensures efficiency, without waste, contributing to other cost savings for the customer."A proven leader in navigable waterways, QSK 38, now with low emissions, could be commercialized in the Brazilian market, which requires, however, the Tier II regulation. A yard, for example, that wants to build a navigable vessel in the North American market can count on the new Cummins engine option, "says Antonio Colares, Cummins Sales and Services' Motors Business Manager.Complex and global marine projects require collaborations between state lines, country boundaries, and time zones. Cummins and Independent Distributors combine the same service, support and are strategically located to serve customers with excellence.
