NIO materializes an ambitious project with the launch of its first mass-produced commercial product - taking into account the market for which it is directed. Announced during the last Shanghai Salon 2017 celebrated in the month of April, the new NIO ES8 begins its commercialization in China. It is a fully electric mechanic SUV with an interior for seven passengers.Although they are two very different vehicles, it is clear that we are facing an interesting alternative that will fight directly on price with the Tesla Model X, as well as other SUVs equipped with this type of mechanics that will soon come on the scene. Its image may not be especially attractive if it is analyzed from the European or American view, however, the most relevant of the new NIO ES8 is its technical and mechanical part.The Chinese manufacturer assures that the ES8 has a chassis and a body integrally elaborated in aluminum. Moreover, NIO points out that it is the production vehicle with the largest amount of this material used in its manufacturing process. Another strong point that will allow this new electric model to rival the Tesla SUV is its interior with seating for seven adult passengers.In addition to the seven seats, the passenger compartment draws attention to the quality of the materials used and the good adjustments. It also has a Nappa leather upholstery, a digital instrument panel and a large touch screen for the use of the infotainment system. It will be fitted as standard with an 'air quality system' through an activated carbon filter and HEPA, as well as a negative ion generator.

The NIO Pilot technology is another major virtue of ES8. It is described by the NIO as an advanced driver assistance system. It uses a total of 23 sensors, a trifocal frontal camera, four external cameras, five millimeter wave radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Thanks to all this hardware, the electric SUV features an automatic emergency braking function, assistance of traffic retentions, detection of blind spots, recognition of traffic signals and warning of exit of range, among other characteristics.Mechanically the NIO ES8 is propelled by two electric motors that develop a total power of 480 kW (653 hp) and 840 Nm of maximum torque. With two engines, it will have a total traction system and will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds. Both engines are powered by the energy stored in the 70 kWh battery pack that allows the model to announce a 355-km range (NEDC).

In China, the new NIO ES8 is on sale from 448,000 yuan (224,000 reais). With the reason for its launch, NIO will market the limited edition 'Founder's Edition' of which will be manufactured only 10,000 units with a more exclusive equipment and finish. Of course, this will increase the price to 548,000 yuan (274,000 reais). The company also plans to offer a battery rental plan for 1,280 yuan (640 reais) per month, which will reduce the price of the vehicle by 100,000 yuan (50,000 reais).
To stimulate the sale of its electric cars, NIO plans to build more than 1,100 quick recharge points, which will enable the ES8 to achieve 100 kilometers of autonomy with only 10 minutes of charge.
