Iconic Audi TT ends production after 25 years

Audi has released a Final Edition variant of its iconic TT to mark the end of a 25-year production run for the sports car.

The TT was first introduced to the world at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show as the Audi TT prototype study. It wasn't until three years later that the showcar's silhouette transitioned into production with only minor cosmetic changes.

It first arrived in the UK in 1999, but demand for the new model was such that the UK's first year waiting list for the allocated 1,000 examples was filled in June 1997.

The car lived through three generations, all offered as 2+2 coupes and two-seat convertibles. Sportier S and RS versions were added from the second generation onwards.

The UK remains one of the biggest markets for the TT. In 2022, a total of 2,672 UK sales accounted for over 33% of the model's global sales volume.

“Few models have stood the test of time as well as the Audi TT,” commented Andrew Doyle, Director of Audi UK. “The sharp, Bauhaus-inspired lines of the sports coupé look as fresh today as they did in 1998, and to mark the model's incredible success here in the UK, our Final Edition combines everything our customers love about this iconic model.”

The TT Final Edition(image below) will go on sale in March, priced at £41,910. It is marked by the black styling package, a fixed rear spoiler also finished in black, 20-inch alloy wheels and red brake calipers. Roadster models also benefit from roll bars and wind diffuser finished in black.

The TT S Final Editions are mounted on the seven-spoke Audi Sport rotor, anthracite black alloys with a glossy finish. Buyers can choose from Tango Red, Glacier White and Chronos Gray metallic paint as standard.

Inside, the door armrests, door handles and center console trim are all covered in leather as part of the extended leather package. An Alcantara steering wheel with red stitching and 12-hour marker is exclusive to the Final Edition, along with Tango Red inserts on the seats, air vents and center console (coupe only). Other upgrades include Alcantara trim seats with decorative red stitching and red piping on the floor mats.

The Audi Technology Pack comes standard on TT Final Editions, adding MMI Navigation Plus with MMI Touch and Audi Connect Infotainment Services (36-month subscription), which allows owners to access real-time information such as local fuel prices and the weather forecast. through the MMI system high speed internet connection. The Comfort & Sound Pack (TTS only) is an additional standard upgrade, bringing a Bang & Olufsen sound system, advanced key, reversing camera and a full suite of parking sensors.

To coincide with the launch of the TT Final Edition, Audi UK has streamlined its sports coupé model offering. The outgoing lineup of 11 derivative models will be reduced to six: S Line, Black Edition, Final Edition, S Final Edition, RS and RS Sport Edition.

The launch of the TT RS was marked by the launch of the TT RS coupé Iconic Edition, limited to 100 units in Europe with 11 units destined for the United Kingdom. The TT's popularity has ensured that all copies sell out within weeks of going on sale in late 2022.

The Audi TT name is set to live on in the form of a new electric SUV. From 2026, the German brand will only launch new all-electric models and phase out its ICE models by 2033.
